Picture 1: i like the concept of this poster and i think we could do something very similar. Maybe having me on the back of a ride with a guitar on my back would be a good poster/cd cover. I would then like to possibly change the colouring of the photo by using photoshop. For example picture 3 has been changed by using photoshop.

Picture 2: This is another poster that interested me. I think that the cartoon drawing is a different approach that may be used by us. This would mean getting someone from the art department of our school to draw us something like this. I also like the idea of not capturing the band as a whole and maybe just using one or two members.

Picture 3: I like this photo as it captures the hole band and uses photoshop to change the colours of the original photo. this is definitely something we should think about using as it makes the poster stand out more than an ordinary photo.

Picture 4: This is a very interesting concept. I think this would be a concept to consider. I like the way they have just used the outline of something and then filled it in with the union jack. I think that i could combine the pose of picture one and then use the union jack inside of the outline.

Picture 5: I like the idea of taking a photo of the band in surroundings outside. I think the clothes in this picture give a good representation to a rock and roll band.

Picture 6: I think that this picture is a great picture as it is in black and

1. I am going to research posters within the same genre as mine.
2. I am going to analyse the conventions of promotional posters for similar artists.

Conventions Of A Standard Music Video

Camera Shots - Most music video's consist of many cuts which consists of long, mid and close ups shots. This will then show the audience what the artist is feeling through emotions shown in the close or mid shot etc. Close ups are sometimes used to watch the movement of the lips when the artist is singing. Sometimes the same shot of one person will be cut straight to the same shot of another person to show the relationship between the two. Some music videos however do not use the conventional way of filming a music video and instead of using several shots they might only use one shot through the video. This means it might just be one long cut like in the video "i want love" by Elton John featuring Robert Downey Jr. This is some ways was more powerful than using many shots and cutting between them.

Camera Movement - In most music videos, the camera movement is simple and either doesn't move at all or simple shots such as tracking shots might be used to follow the band or the actor in the narrative part of the video. The majority of music videos will use tilts (often used to give the band status), pans, and crane shots.

Editing - Match on action shots are commonly used in a music video to show the emotion of a person and what they are looking at or doing. For example, if in a music video to a love song they use a match on action shot to show the facial expression or emotions it then might cut to a long shot of them looking at the person they like. Jump cuts are the main form of editing technique used in a music video. It may cut from the band to the narrative part of the music video. Also, the fading of someone or something is often used in a music video and is most commonly used at the beginning and ending of the video.

Lighting - Lighting plays a huge role in any music video as it can make a character in the video look evil, powerful etc. Some videos are taken in black and white as some believe it looks more powerful by doing this. i for one believe it can make the video look more interesting and am considering this in our music video. Some videos are shot in partly black and white and colour to betray one part of the video as more sad and the other more happy. Shooting someone in black and white makes it looks bland and boring. Sometimes the same shot in colour becomes very different and almost uplifting.

Sound - Often the music track is the sound used in a music video. However, in some cases they add a short film at the beginning or at the end of a song. In some cases they might even add the short film in the middle. This might be added to make us understand more about the song or why the artist has made the song.

Props - Props can be used in a music video to create a certain feel and portray the artist/band a specific way. I think that props are often used much more often in the narrative part of the video as the band or artist is mostly concentrated on singing or performing song in a way they wish to be perceived.

Colour - Colour is often a main part to any video as it gives the video either a negative vibe or a positive one. For example heavy rock videos often consist of dark colours that make the video feel more aggresive. Where as up beat dance music involves bright and vagrant colours that make people feel more lively and positive.

Common representations of indie bands

Often in the music scene indie bands are generally made up of white young men who are aged roughly between 20 and 30. They are represented as sometimes being involved in drugs and drink and are often seen as stylish. Most indie band members have roughly the same hair style and often have reasonably long hair.

Indie music evolved from rock music from the 90's. Many of today's fashionable indie bands share similar styles to old fashions that have been brought back in. This interests me and we will have to consider this when making our music video. Bands such as "The Killers" or "Kasabian" show elements of these styles. This in my opinion gives them a modern representation as they choose to try and look their best with clothes that some would say are more feminine rather than masculine.

Some bands such as Oasis may be now seen as a indie band rather than a rock band which could be argued about as oasis give a more rock and roll look, with taking many drugs, drink and being violent towards photographers etc.

Media Production Shoot

Picture 1: I took this picture in the corridoor of my school which i think i will use in the narative part of my video. I would possibly use a similar effect when filming as the one used in oasis video "morning glory" and use a jump cut from an extreme long shot to a long shot.

Picture 2: I took this picture in the lower field of my school which i think would be a good long/establishing shot for my video. I will possibly use adam in a future shoot soon to see what it would look like.

Picture 3: I tood this shot in one of the lanes near the field of my school. Although this shot is unclear, i think this would be a nice shot to use at some stage in the video. i think that this shot would probably work best in the narrative part of the video.

Picture 4: I Took this shot at the same location as picture 2, however, i have gone from a long shot to a close up. I think that i could use adam in this shot whilst singing. I could use him central of the steps and use all different types of shots as it is higher up to the ground level.

Picture 5 & 6: This location shot was taken in hanham hills near my house. I think both shots would be great to use and reminds me of the shots used in the music video "songbird" by oasis. I think that these shots should possibly be used in colour and not in black and white like most of the other shots. However, i am not sure what i am going to use in the video yet out of colour or black and white (or possibly even both).

Picture 7: I took this shot In hanham hills. I think this shot would be good to use adam walking along whilst singing. I would possibly even use some low angle shots of this location looking up at adam with the sun and hills in the back ground.

Picture 8: I took this picture in Gover Rd. I think that me sitting down with a guitar playing along would be a good shot. I could possibly use more long shots and mid shots of me than any other shot as i will be playing the guitar which will need to be in view.

Picture 9: This will probably be the shot that is best suited for nicks part of the video as it still looks scenic but also in view are houses etc. I think that this will be the shot used before nick starts rapping. He will probably get up and move from this position to the lanes etc.
